We're focusing this article on Chinese astrology. 2006 is a fire year for the earth dog. Since fire supports earth, let's evaluate the
more positive characteristics of those elements. If the two elements weren't compatible, we'd look more at the negative traits. The year should be smoother than we've seen in a while. In another article, 2006 Feng Shui & the Year of Hard Wood
, we'll explore this year's energy even further. Fire symbolizes approachability, warmth, and passion. Its compatible neighbor (earth) symbolizes creativity and stability. This may demonstrate itself in a search for
spirit and focus on family. It's fun to validate this theory by looking at history. The Chinese calendar has a 60-year cycle, so the last time we experienced this energy (fire year, earth dog) was 1946.
Events that happened in 1946 gave us hope. The best picture was The Best Years of Our Lives. A sampling of books that were published: This Side of Innocence, Peace of Mind, and Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care. Hit songs
were Zip-a-Dee-Do-Dah, Come Rain or Come Shine, and I Got the Sun in the Morning. Movies included It's a Wonderful Life and The Yearling. New products included Tide, Timex watches, Estee Lauder and Max Factor cosmetics,
and the world's first electronic computer. Let's look at some of the births that year. Some believe we need to see where we came from to see where we're going (i.e., lessons turned to opportunities). How
have these people lived their lives? Think objectively about the impact they have had. Donovan, Gregory Hines, Liza Minelli, Candace Bergen, Reggie Jackson, Donald Trump, Barry Manilow, Gilda Radner, Sylvester Stallone,
George W. Bush, Cheech Marlin, Oliver Stone, Gianni Versace, and Jimmy Buffett…just to name a few. This year we'll likely see better international relations and peace talks. In 1946 the United Nations was
founded in London. Truman created the Central Intelligence Group (now CIA). The Revised Standard Version of the Bible was completed. The first CARE package arrives in Europe. Segregation on public transportation was
ruled as unconstitutional. National School Lunch Act becomes law. The bikini is introduced. The first American saint is named. Cannes has its first film festival. The first mobile long distance phone conversation takes
place. Scientists warn that smoking may cause cancer. The ballpoint pen goes on sale. The Flamingo Hotel transforms Las Vegas into a gambling resort. The first ATM appears in Chicago. Truman formally declares an end to
WWII. Fire on top of earth implies yang fire. Think of fire on top of a mountain. This could invoke powerful volcanic eruptions, energy-related explosions, and fire disasters. We should pay special attention to
nuclear facilities. There was a special on a news program recently that showed how easy it is to access these on college campuses. Be proactive in your community by being active! Each Chinese astrology animal has an
opposing animal. For the dog this is the dragon. These are both strong earth-related animals which implies severe earth-related symptoms such as earthquakes. There's more detail on this in the article, 2006 Feng Shui & the Year of Hard Wood. Other
earth-related animals are ox (sometimes called buffalo) and sheep (sometimes called goat or ram). Dogs, dragons, ox, and sheep need to avoid strong earth settings such as mountains and deserts, especially during earth
months (Jan 06=ox, Apr=dragon, Jul=sheep, Oct=dog, Jan 07=ox). Each month I provide a monthly tip that guides each astrology animal. If you're like me, a dragon, this is a year to be conservative. It is a time for
change and movement. I like a challenge, and there's also times that it's nice to have calm. Does life come to a stand still because it's not particularly a good year? No, of course not. This is helpful information that
enables success. If strategic decisions can be delayed for a better time, that's preferable. You can be sure I'll check energy patterns and other conditions in my planning process. This dog/earth
influence also brings caution regarding health such as cancer. If you're a smoker, quit. Purge your body of free radicals. Explore anti-oxidant agents such as vitamins, fresh fruits and vegetables, and tea. Earth also
represents the abdomen, stomach, immune system, spleen, joints, hands, and shoulders. Take care of your stomach and stretch to help with joint and shoulder pain. As a fire year, it affects eyes, heart, and
circulation. Increase your water intake and decrease sugar (alcohol). This is especially important because the combination of fire and earth (dry heat) dominate the water element. Water affects blood and kidneys. Our
bodies will easily dehydrate this year so drink plenty of pure water. Fall in love with the unadulterated beverage and your hair, nails, and skin (blood and kidneys) will thank you. The dog also has favorites. They
are the rabbit, tiger, and horse. These animal signs will experience better harmony during 2006. How much harmony (and times to be watchful…yin and yang work together) take more analysis (see personal consult). The
lunar New Year typically falls late January to early February. If your birthday is during this period, you may need to use the previous year to determine your Chinese astrology. For the purposes of the table below, use
February 4 as a guideline. If you were born February 4, use the previous year. If you were born February 5, use the year you were actually born. If you want to be more specific, feel free to send me an eMail. Here's an
overview for you this year:
