Feng Shui Practitioner Calls Sunbury Home

The ancient energy-management practice, Feng Shui, originated far from the village of Sunbury – with Chinese Buddhist monks more than 6,000 years ago.

But a leading practitioner calls Sunbury home. Diana Garber consults with businesses and individuals from across the country to promote harmony, wellness and prosperity using Feng Shui techniques from her home on state Route 61.

Her work has won her mention in Who's Who of American Women and a nomination for the United Cultural Convention's 2005 International Peace Prize.

Garber has developed a train-the-trainer program that was implemented in 14 states. Her work has been published in the Asian Leader, Feng Shui News and New Life Magazine.

Garber said she selected the site of her Sunbury home for its harmonious properties, according to Feng Shui principles. Contrary to popular belief, Garber said Feng Shui pertains more to the geographical environment than the interior of one's home.

The pond to Garber's west, and the tree line to her south, help create the perfect Feng Shui scenario, said Garber.

"It's like the environment is hugging and protecting you," said Garber. "Living in a harmonious environment gives you health."

It was health concerns that first attracted Garber to Feng Shui, she said. Early in her life, Garber was plagued with health problems. Garber underwent 18 major surgeries as she suffered from a series of health conditions, she said.

Since she began practicing Feng Shui, her health problems have faded away, she said. Now Garber uses her experience to help others who are suffering.

Garber now consults with The Ohio State University. She helped design their Center for Integrative Medicine on Kenny Road – a facility that incorporates Western medicine with alternative medicine techniques from around the world.

Laura Kunze, program coordinator at the center, said since the facility opened they have referred several patients to Garber for treatment.

"They reported improvement in their lives and homes," she said. "I haven't heard any complaints."

Garber worked on Bank One's disaster relief team for 20 years before going into business for herself, she said. She offers her services and products through her company, Intuitive Concepts, based in her home.
