Feng Shui Types

Are there different types of Feng Shui?

Yes, there are several types of Feng Shui, to name the most common:

  1. Form School began in Southern China, and is based on evaluating land forms, waterways and geography.
  2. Compass School (also known as traditional or classic Feng Shui, or geomancy) was founded for the relatively flat topography of Northern China, which dominates throughout most of the world. This practice uses either a Chinese (luopan) or Western-style compass to determine the eight compass directions of a building or room, and then specific degrees for further analysis (determine what elements such as fire, earth, metal, water or wood govern aspects of the building and the occupants' lives). Compass School is considered a scientific method. Example: If a home's energy is water and it's owner's energy is fire, water extinguishes fire. Correctives may be called for to balance this, and restore harmony.
  3. Black Sect Tantric Tibetan School (also known as Black Hat) has gained popularity in the United States, and is the newest form of Feng Shui. It disregards compass directions, and instead uses a grid which uses the entrance of a building or room as the main reference point. Then objects, mirrors and other enhancements are placed accordingly. Example: The far left corner from the entrance typically represents wealth and prosperity, and uses the color green.

Whichever form of Feng Shui is chosen, be consistent. Practice one method at a time. If it does not produce desired results, try another. Feng Shui creates harmony by respecting life's gifts and the world around us. Feng Shui is simply good common sense, sound architectural design and intuition. Geography, ecology, meteorology, astronomy, interior design, ancient Chinese philosophies such as Taoism, Buddhism, and folk beliefs that have survived thousands of years are all a part of the mix. Many times Feng Shui confirms what you've done, but didn't know why you did it that way other than it felt right or you liked it. Then there's what you didn't know that may be impacting health, relationships, wealth, joy and overall abundance.

All schools of Feng Shui are based on the following principle: Put the right objects in the right place to be in harmony and balance with yourself, nature and the universe. As you do so, you will activate areas of your life for improvements. Impacts will unfold to bring about harmony, health, love, romance, marriage, children, business, employment, creativity, self-development, wealth, fame, fortune and aspirations.
