Here in the U.S., presidential elections take place in November. People I've heard from seem to fall into three camps: 1) passionate about their issues but still undecided which candidate
will come close to fulfilling their expectations; 2) ardent about their choice in candidates and reaching out to convince others; and, 3) resigned because it makes no difference in the end.
It's the third group that I'm most concerned with. It's the we-versus-they mentality. Guess what? There is no they - only we. We voted our leadership in. For those that didn't
vote, how can you complain? When not taking any responsibility, it's easy to pass judgment. Our actions today determine tomorrow's future. Global warming is a prime example of this.
Here in Ohio, we're a month ahead of (what used to be) normal weather. Normal will have to be redefined. Hurricane Ike came into Ohio at category one force. For those not familiar with
where Ohio is, Houston (where Ike landed) is in the middle of the country. Ohio is in the NE (1,200 miles away). We were without power for days and are still having intermittent issues. It
doesn't feel like a "they" situation. We can't produce money and not back it up without affecting the world economy (let alone our
own economy). We can't continue to devour resources and expect there to be a reasonable future for our children and grandchildren. Yes, you've heard this before. Now it's time to act.
YOU are important. YOU make a difference. Every journey starts with the first step. Think long term (how things need to be) and take baby steps. We are one world. Please check out

. A fire month in a water year (began 2/4/08) represents sizzling transformation. As fire and water come together, transformations that are good cause academic success and romance. However, transformations that are not
good can cause heart and eye problems, miscarriages, and sexually transmitted diseases. In addition, if you are initiating this change, a job change can be good. If you are not initiating a
job change, this news may be unwelcome. With the current state of the economy, this can be scary. The monthly Chinese astrology sign of Dragons may have more challenges during the month.
And, remember all of 2008 (2/4/08 to 2/4/09) is challenging for horses. Energy Days This Month

- Lunar eclipse – None for October
- Solar eclipse – None for October
- New moon – 10/28 generally good to start new projects
- Full moon – 10/14 generally good to wrap up a project. Not good for surgery or medical procedures due to risk of increased bleeding. Also, bulbs planted during a full
moon produce better results!

These statistics were provided by stopglobalwarming.org. Greenland's glaciers are melting into the sea twice as fast as previously believed.
Earlier this year, the US Interior Department declared the polar bear a threatened species because of the loss of Arctic sea ice due to global warming. This is a victory, but the listing
does not yet include how the bears will be provided greater protection. Californians use about 19 billion plastic shopping bags annually, costing taxpayers about $25
million a year to collect and dispose of, according to Californians Against Waste. West coast cities are now taking the lead in banning plastic bags. Last year, San Francisco enacted the
country's first ban on non-biodegradable plastic bags. The world uses one million bags a minute! Bags are used an average of twelve minutes before
disposal. The best answer to "Paper or plastic?" is "Neither." Bring your own reusable bag when you shop.
A shocking statistic: 2.5 million plastic water bottles are thrown away every hour in the United States. Help ditch the use of plastic and stop global warming!
